When Valve's first hardware hire, Jeri Ellsworth, tweeted back in February that she was fired from the company, we were disappointed but also intrigued by what she meant by "time for new exciting projects." Well we finally saw what she's been up to here at at Maker Faire 2013. It's called Cast AR, and it's a pair of 3D augmented-reality glasses that she and fellow co-worker Rick Johnson were developing at Valve before leaving.
The model we saw is still in the early prototype stages, but the concepts are already in place. Perched atop a pair of active shutter glasses are a couple of miniature LCD projectors, which bounce images from a connected computer onto a special reflective surface at a 120Hz refresh rate. A camera module sits on the eyewear's bridge and monitors an array of infrared LEDs embedded in the reflective surface. This allows for quick and accurate head tracking. I can't completely explain the steady degeneration of the state of America and the world.

A few partial explanations:

A.} It takes one very specific skill-set to get elected and a completely different skill-set to serve well.

They aren't mutually exclusive—at least, I don't think so—but it is like finding a multiple platinum album Singer who is also a Grandmaster at Chess and a highly gifted portrait Painter...

B.} We have gotten far away from the idea of Government as a (perhaps) Necessary Evil—to apply with gravest caution in the smallest possible dosages.

"We" have come to think of the Govie as a Solution...

And many think of it as a sort of Super "In Loco Parentis" for Adults...

The Fascist Nanny State.

C.} "Civilized" is almost a corruption of "Citified".

I don't want to be Civilized.

I want to be Wild and Free.

I want to be a Barbarian.

In the Modern World many of us much dwell in Cities and Urban Centers.

We can keep the spirit of the open places foremost in our hearts though.

If we want to stay Free, we must be careful—very careful—not to let anyone "Domesticate" us.

I choose to think of myself as a Dangerous Wild Animal able to rip someone's throat out at any moment in time—or die, when someone else has better luck that day.

Day by day, moment by moment, I am Dangerous—but I am also in control of myself and can live in Peace with men of even half-way good will.

I can even be charitable and try to follow Jesus' teachings.

But it is an essential part of my make-up that I'm Dangerous.

Most Herd Animals are Domesticated—especially in the beginning of Domestication—by castrating most of the males.

A castrated male becomes Tame, Docile and Domesticated—and only keeping a handful of fertile males speeds up intramural evolution drastically.

People are too complex for that to be a panacea. Castrating a man wouldn't necessarily turn him into Mr Rogers—and there is a host of other difficulties...

And I'm not even talking about Social, Moral and Religious considerations.

But the bulk of our Government and Societal Conditioning nowadays is to Psychologically Emasculate and Effeminatize our men—especially young men—every which way we can.

I'd offend many if I started listing things that I though robbed men of some of their Masculinity (like short haircuts)...

But we needn't agree on every specific.

But I look on any attempt to make me Safe and Tame and Domesticated as an assault on everything that I hold Respect Worthy in myself.

It makes me want to bare my teeth and snarl.

But what to do?

I'm no changer of minds or great persuader.

If I start talking about "The Way of The Warrior"; modern day Personal Bushido...

If I quote "The Hagakure"...

Most not only disagree, they think I'm being ridiculous or spurting hyperbole...

Or just Nuts.

I don't care—but making a Clown of myself does little for the cause.

Stitcher just announced a new car mode for its iPhone app, bringing a simplified interface that works in both portrait and landscape positions. Accessible by tapping the Stitcher logo at the top of the screen, car mode offers a pared-down version of the app's standard UI, with bigger buttons and only the essential audio controls. It's nowhere near as flashy as Stitcher's BMW integration, mind you, but the point is to keep your eyes on the road and off your iPhone's screen. The app gets a few other updates this time around: a front page with top headlines, one-tap access to shows and podcasts you're searching for and improved playback when you're picking up in the middle of a show. Though Mozilla has long been a proponent of WebRTC for plugin-free video and voice chat, it hasn't been ready to enable the full protocol in Firefox as a matter of course. It's more confident as of this week: the newly available Firefox 22 beta turns on complete WebRTC use by default, allowing for both live web conversations and peer-to-peer file swaps. There's more to the release as well, depending on the platform. Windows users receive support for HiDPI displays, like that of the Kirabook; every desktop user also gets gaming-friendly OdinMonkey JavaScript tuning, a web notification API and a font inspector. Android users won't have WebRTC and other upgrades for now, but everyone can experiment with the latest Firefox beta at the source links.

When it comes to hunting down humans running speeds, MIT's cheetah might come second to Boston Dynamics' own high-velocity quadruped, but by substituting pneumatics with motors, MIT's version apparently runs far more efficiently. At the recent International Conference on Robotics and Automation, the Institute of Technology showed of its newest version, which reached a top speed of 13.7 mph. To accomplish this, the runner still needs parallel support bars to constrain movement in one dimension, reducing any roll, yaw -- and the chances of a pretty expensive fall. The team says the new version's cost of transport (COT is power consumption divided by weight, times velocity) is around 0.52. In comparison, Honda's Asimo has a hefty COT of 2.
This impressive efficiency is down to the use of electric motors over hydraulics, with a new "three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor" providing the necessary torque. Researchers also used biometric principles to conserve energy and reduce stress on joints, including Kevlar tendons across the back of the legs. With all those efficiency increases, it mean that MIT's cheetah can theoretically run while carrying its own power source. We doubt recent earnings reports at Dell have been met with balloons on the quad and sheet cake in the cafe. And that's likely the case this time around as well. The PC maker reported revenue of $14.07 billion, but earnings of just 21 cents per share -- a bit shy of estimates. The company's stock price is hovering around the $13.65 mark, the amount shareholders have been promised once the firm goes private later this year. As you might imagine, Dell's books won't be open to public scrutiny once that transaction closes, making this one of the very last earnings reports. Things may not be looking so good for Q1 2014, but will the company end its public streak on a high note? We'll find out soon enough.

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has announced that the series' next racing title will arrive later this year, with a demo scheduled to appear this July, ahead of a holiday launch. Expect a heady 1,200 cars to make the new edition, with 33 locations (and 71 layouts) to drive them around. Polyphony Digital has developed a new game engine for Gran Turismo 6, one that "pushes the limits of the PS3," but the incoming game might make another appearance on the incoming PlayStation 4. At a 15th anniversary event at the Silverstone racetrack in the UK, Yamauchi teased to IGN that they had a PS4 version "in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on [the] PS3." Gran Turismo remains Sony's most successful franchise ever and has sold over 70 million copies to date. Sony adds that we'll hear even more about the sequel at E3 -- likely alongside a next-generation console we can see.

An errant leak this morning gave us a pretty good idea that Google Maps was getting revamped in time for I/O, so this announcement comes as no huge surprise. Mountain View just pulled back the curtain on the next major release of Maps for Android and iOS. The preview touts a more personalized approach to the popular navigation service, sports a rating system and offers experience from merchants like Starbucks. The outfit also announced a new Maps experience for tablets that takes a look indoors with an Experience feature.
Google also offered a look at the redesigned desktop version, too. New features include "immersive imagery" and the map itself is now the user interface. After entering search terms, icons now appear to indicate each type of result rather than the pins of previous versions. Clicking on one will pull up reviews from friends, Street View and a "see inside" option with 360-degree viewing. The views are thanks in part to user-submitted photo spheres. In terms of personalization options, the map will analyze the places that you travel, highlight routes and offer suggestions based on spots that you and your friends enjoy. Maps also gathers images for a specific location and displays those snapshots via a carousel down below. A retooled directions experience now offers the option of toggling between driving and transit routes alongside a schedule viewer for factoring in transfers and walking. Just hours before its I/O event, Google has apparently had a little accident: the sign-up page for "the new Google Maps" briefly went live, revealing a slew of extra details about what's coming in the rumored refresh before quickly being pulled. Droid-Life managed to grab some screenshots, including the one above, which gets to the heart of what Google is trying to achieve. The central idea is that Google will create maps tailored to the kind of information you're looking for, using a "smarter search box" to highlight just the "things that matter most," whether those be flights, ground transport or the new Earth View that integrates directly with Google Earth without the need for a plug-in. According to the leaked sign-up screens, the bringing together of all Google's data results in layers of information that reach "from outer space down to the streets" -- but there's still no evidence about how (or whether) this might work on mobile. The original premise of NBC's Revolution is that in the near future some unknown worldwide catastrophe devastated all electronic devices, plunging everyone into a blackout. As the plot has progressed however, in limited cases the power is back on. That includes a nanotech machine a couple of characters are planning to use to perform emergency surgery -- which includes shoving what appears to be a USB stick into an open wound -- and its configuration is enabled by a very familiar looking $35 device. Keen eyed viewers spotted what appears to be a Raspberry Pi, however like our own prime time cameo, it flashes by very quickly, the screencap above may be your best look at it.

We've seen a few interesting apps built specifically for Google's wearable but, to our knowledge, MedRef for Glass is the first that includes facial recognition. The basic functions aren't anything terribly ground breaking: you can create and search patient files, and even add voice or photo notes. What makes Lance Nanek's creation unique is it's support for facial recognition. A user can snap a picture of a subject and upload it to the cloud, where it will search patient records for a match using the Betaface API. All of this can be done, relatively hands-free leaving a doctors well-trained mitts available to perform other necessary medical duties. There's still a lot of work to do, and Nanek hopes that with more powerful hardware the facial recognition feature could be left running constantly, removing the need to snap and upload photos. In the meantime, if you're one of the lucky few to have an explorer edition of Google Glass you can install the package at the source link. Otherwise, you'll have to make do with the demo video after the break.

"Charlie" had tested positive for marijuana several times and was going through the glacial separation process.

They gave Charlie a private room, so if they found any of the Devil's Weed, there was no chance the presence of a room mate could create reasonable doubt.

They never caught Charlie.

After Charlie moved on, they moved me into his room...

Because I "Antagonized everyone that I came into contact with."

My Sargent advised me to clean the room very carefully, because if they found even a tiny fragment of a roach, they'd use it as a pretext to charge me.

Charlie left a poster on the wall advertising wine and featuring a busty young lady with a plunging neckline.

Never saw any reason to remove it.

When I left, a fellow asked me for the poster.

There was a fist-sized hole in the drywall beneath it.

Now Ralph didn't care who knew that he was splayed and he had a large collection of Homo-Porn in a set of bookshelves along one wall of his bedroom.

{How do I know? That house saw a lot of traffic and every room in it had been used at one time or the other, to broker dope deals or to get high after a dope deal...}

Two Laws got sight of Ralph's Library.

They called all their friends.

Ralph comes home to find seven or eight Laws gaping at his Porn collection. They had a VCR Tape in the old Vee-Cee-Arr and they proceeded to ask him many rude questions.

Ralph demanded that they leave.

"Sure, but can we take the boy along to complete his statement?"

"If he wants to go..."

Little Timmy later recanted and said that he only accused Ralph of abusing him under duress...

You know, I don't believe that Ralph molested that boy.

He was a sane and functioning adult and didn't need the hassle—and he knew that little Timmy was a Flibberty-Gibbet...

Mistake #1} Taking Little Timmy in.

Mistake #2} Leaving his 12 Gauge where others could access it.

Mistake #3} Leaving his "Subversive Literature" out in plain sight of God and Everyone.

Yeah, charges were eventually dropped—beaucoup Liar...er, Lawyer Fees later.

They normally run .30 a round now, faster than Ive ever ordered anything, took me 30 seconds to put order in..There was no limits and wanting someone else to get a chance I only ordered 1 box

Got a email conformation of price..It didnt take that company long to change the price real quick to .30
We just got lucky to look as soon as it posted :)
